Next stop is China!
To represent China, our class watched a film directed by Zhang Yimou, The Road Home. There are many objects that have meaning behind them. A bowl, and the food contain an important factor within the culture. Throughout the film a person can notice the many close-ups there are on bowls and food in them. Bowels have history, they are often passed down from one generation to another, and tell a story. The food is taught by the women to the younger generations to keep the family traditions. Finally, The Road Home emphasizes on family, and traditions through the bowels and food cooked by the women.
Good reflections on the movie, including the use of camera shot, and the symbolic use of objects. Mimi
ReplyDeleteI loved what the bowl of food represented in this film! Wondering if the new teacher would choose her bowl of food over all of the others. The anticipation of the daily meal at the school building caused me to feel such excitement, as though I too had a bowl of food placed on the table. Who would have thought that a bowl of food could cause so much of a thrill?
